Hello, Internet Surfers, I'm Ultrablud2 and as you can see in the title, I'm going to talk about my thoughts on a character that we never saw (yet) but was talked about quite a bit on RR: Shelley, Devin's ex girlfriend.
Here's the deal: RR has got out of its' way to make Shelley look like a mean girl who didn't care about Devin and an obstacle to Carrie's goal of confessing her love to Devin. The problem here is that I'm not buying it one bit because the writers forgot to add one thing to the whole deal.
Context.
For starters, we've only heard the relationship from Devin's P.O.V., and Devin's P.O.V. only, never did we hear Shelley's side of the story because, you know, we never even saw her. For all we know, Shelley could be a nice girl. Just because you're in a bad relationship, that doesn't make you a bad person (Ryan is a example of that).
Now I know what you're thinking "But what about the time Shelley locked Devin out of her car for buying her the wrong tea?" Well, for all we know, it's possible that they got into a big argument at the time and Shelley use the tea as an excuse to not talk to Devin and stay away from him.
Now you may be thinking "What about the fact that Shelley cheated on Devin with Asthon, her tennis instructor and broke up with him" Well, let me remind you that Shelley thought that they'd broken up, so it's not like she cheated on Devin on purpose, which is more than I can say for Sky.
So, what are your thoughts on Shelley? Do you think she's a nice girl or a mean girl?
