I know what a lot of you are thinking already, but hear me out. I don't think that the new badges are that bad. The reasoning for that is: I've been more inspired to edit pages, participate in discussion, and make contributions in the Wiki in these two days than I ever did in my first 9 months of being at the Wiki. And no, I'm not one of those people who changes a word in order to get more badges. In fact, I'll address that next. I know that there will be "Fluff" editors who go overboard. But that has died down a ton from the first day. And while some of them may make it to the top of the achievement board right now, it is only the first week that we've had these badges. In the long run, they won't get anywhere close to the real contributors and if they do, it means that they stuck around. And by then, they'll have started to understand the Wiki better and make good edits. So I think that in the long run, it will be a good thing. It just doesn't seem like it now because it's the first week. Just my opinion, feel free to disagree.
