Spoilers for the latest episode will appear in this blog. Warning you now.
So, this episode, although not a bad episode at all, had one glaring thing that set me off and made me soooooo irritated.
Chris McLean has always been sadistic, I know. He only cares about three things: His hair, his ratings, and himself. And this personality was originally entertaining, as it never got too out of hand. In the first two seasons, the challenges were always somewhat life-threatening, but never too life-threatening. And it was mostly this way in the third season, too. With the original cast, you never had any reason to fear for their lives.
And yes, I know they're cartoons. But still.
However, this season, Chris seems to have gotten worse, with maniacal laughter, much more dangerous challenges (taking place on an island filled with toxic waste, even). However, I didn't really have a problem with it, honestly, because it is a cartoon, there's no way they'd die, yadda yadda yadda. But when Chris said they'd dedicate the episode to a person if they stayed in the mine for too long, it basically had me do a double take. And then he said Dakota had already been in the cave for 40 minutes. Which made me worried.
Anyways, the challenge just crossed the line soooo many times. Think about it, if Brick hadn't saved Mike, Zoey, and Cameron... The episode might've just been dedicated to them.
It's just awful how Chris has gotten over the years. He's willing to let a group of people be killed so he won't be arrested? And even if he was, he would've been able to afford bail, get a fantastic lawyer, etc. because he's rich. And also, he had them carry bombs on their backs. Who does that to sixteen year olds?!
I used to like Chris McLean, way long ago. But after this challenge, having people run through a mine full of hazardous materials that will kill them aftr 30 minutes with bombs tied to their backs was just a million times too far. The sad thing is, the characters were at their best this episode, and I would've enjoyed it much more if it weren't for the death trap from this episode. If I was on the show, I'd be asking Courtney for the number of her lawyer.
The writers are lucky that the characters are pretty awesome this season, that's all I have to say. Thank you.
Sidenote: Also, why put Dakota on the Maggots because they're "short a member" when the Rats only have TWO. PEOPLE. As said by my friend Jax, "Chris is crazy this season. Not just sadistic. Just. Plain. Crazy."
