Welcome back to Character Appreciation, a blog series that will run for the whole year alongside Project 10. Each week we'll take a look at one Total Drama character, what we like and dislike about them, how they've grown, and what we hope to see from them in the future. I'm Epic~00 and this week, we're looking at The Sweet Girl's Best Friend, Sadie!
Overview[]
Sadie arrives to Total Drama Island with her best friend Katie and is excited to be there, being hugely close to her friend. She has troubling dependency issues, her and Katie relying on each other to cope and having horror when temporary placed on opposing teams before Izzy compromises to rectify it. Later down the line, the girls become separated from their team in The Sucky Outdoors when campers need to camp in remote locations away from their cabins, clashing over their differences and almost getting themselves killed as a result. By the time they make up however, they've already cost the challenge for their team by being the last two to arrive back. Due to her poor sense of direction in getting them lost, Katie is separated from Sadie, leaving Sadie to have to depend on herself. She manages to duke it out through several challenges, but five episodes later sees her utterly fail at successfully shooting an apple off of Courtney's head blindfolded, shooting at dozens of precious civilians/equipment and hitting practically everything but the apple, ending up knocking out her own teammate in the process. She swiftly gets booted off as a result.
Sadie failed to earn her place in Total Drama Action as her and Katie don't get close enough to the case to get another chance to compete, and fails again in Total Drama World Tour when her and Katie join their crush Justin in helping Geoff search for help when the cast gets stranded. Nevertheless, in both instances the two are still joyful to be always together.
Opinions[]
Like I said about Leonard a couple weeks ago, I find Sadie to be a pretty underrated character. She may not reach as many highs as lots of other contestants have but we need more minor characters like her to balance things out. Ignoring her hilarious raging arguments with Katie, I'd argue Sadie was pretty funny by her own merit too, such as one of the best background gags ever in Dodgebrawl in which she excitedly enters the court only to be out two seconds later, or her being virtually invisible for three episodes in a row only to ultimately end up beating the living crap out of Courtney and almost everyone in sight before Courtney destroys her existence and takes her out, exploding Sadie into antagonizing her team as MARSHMALLOW EATING FREAKS, bawling her eyes out crying leaving, randomly being reunited with Katie, and then screaming like a dolphin till the sun rise. Iconic. For obvious reasons of her not really being a very fleshed out character and for the fact that I more favor characters who are "big" in what they offer, Sadie's never been one of my favorite but I've always been pretty intrigued by her on the whole and her and Katie definitely need to be pegged for the next Ridonculous Race.
