Trent, labeled The Cool Guy, was a camper from Total Drama Island as a member of the Screaming Gophers. He was a cast member on Total Drama Action, and was the captain of the Killer Grips. He did not compete on Total Drama World Tour, but appeared in the Total Drama World Tour Aftermath. He was seen with the original contestants on a yacht in the first episode of Total Drama: Revenge of the Island.

Personality

Trent is a relaxed, nice guy who tends to get along with everyone, even the immensely hated Chris. A straight-A student, he is intelligent but would rather not bring attention to it. He is known for his guitar skills, which impress several people throughout the series. He is also shown as being a pain magnet, suffering a number of near-death experiences and mishaps during Total Drama Island and sometimes in Total Drama Action. However, he usually recovers from these injuries by the next episode. As revealed in his biography, he also finds enjoyment in motorcycles and dreams of having his own bike shop one day. He is a ladies man, having dated two girls since joining Total Drama and apparently many others before. In addition, Katie, Sadie, Lindsay, and Beth have shown attraction to him. His lucky number is nine, revealed in season two. In that same season, under the belief that he was losing Gwen to Duncan, a jealous Trent becomes desperate to uphold his relationship, referencing the number frequently to help cope. Unfortunately, thanks to a series of misunderstandings, heartache, and angry teammates, Trent's fate is crippling. Depressed about the events at first, Trent eventually brushes it off with the help of many new female fans. He is also able to maintain an awkward but sure friendship with his ex-girlfriend, even after his worst fear comes true.

Trent's arrival to Total Drama Island.

Trent was the tenth contestant to arrive on the island in Not So Happy Campers - Part 1 is was placed on the Screaming Gophers. Trent performs well in the first challenge, being able to jump down the cliff without fear and also being able to encourage Owen when he is too afraid to jump. From the beginning, he quickly make friends with Gwen, being the first open the Goth loner open up to. In The Big Sleep, they depend on each other to stay awake, sharing a conversation about their interests and talking about the stars. Eventually, Chris begin telling the remaining campers about the history of Canada, causing Trent to fall asleep, upsetting Gwen. Nevertheless, Gwen manage to outlast the final Killer Bass member and win for the Screaming Gophers.

Trentsing

Trent sings about Gwen in the talent show.

In Not Quite Famous, Trent is one of the three Gophers chosen for the talent show. He also spends a lot of his time with Gwen, saving her a seat at the beginning of the episode and later grabbing an extra muffin for her during breakfast. When the two try to share a moment by the lake however, Cody and Owen interrupt them by jumping into the water, soaking and angering Gwen. That night, Trent successfully plays a song with his guitar which is about Gwen. His song was well liked by Chef Hatchet, and receive the highest score at the time. Later, Trent listen to Heather reading Gwen's diary out loud to the entire viewing world and revealing her crush on Trent. Gwen retaliates by dropping Harold's ant farm on her after the night. In the next episode, Trent defends Gwen when Heather vows to eliminate her next, saying what Heather did was harsh.

MimeTrent

Trent faces his biggest fear, mimes.

In Phobia Factor, Trent promise to stay by Gwen's side while she complete her task of being buried alive. Trying to keep Gwen from being nervous, Trent tells her about how he receives his fear of mimes; when he was younger, a mime follows him everywhere after he was lost while trying to find his mother. Suddenly, a mime appears and begins to chase Trent, forcing him to abandon Gwen. Eventually, Trent jumps into the lake, forcing the mime to give up or ruining his make-up. Trent was then distracted, helping Chris in pranking Geoff and completely forgotten about Gwen. Once he remembers, Trent quickly dig her up though she threw her walkie-talkie at him in anger. This incident strain their relationship a little as Gwen didn't forgive him for a few episodes.

In Up the Creek, Trent and Gwen originally wanted to be canoe partners but Cody, who also has feelings for Gwen got to her first, forcing him to partner up with Lindsay and Beth instead. As they are paddling to Boney Island, Lindsay tries to flirt with Trent by lying down on his lap which he doesn't mind. Later, Trent is trapped in quicksand and Lindsay tries to save him only for her to get trapped herself. The both of them were eventually saved by Cody. After his near-death experience, Trent had a conversation with Cody about their respective feelings for Gwen. At the end, Cody allows Trent to switch canoe partners, allowing Trent to be with Gwen again.

Trent quickly has doubts about letting Lindsay prepare the fugu blowfish.

For the next few episodes, luck was not on Trent's side as not only he failed to complete his challenge, he is often injured while doing so. In If You Can't Take The Heat..., he was knocked out by Owen when he accidentally threw a crate of oranges on him and was taken out of the challenge early. He was partnered with Lindsay in Who Can You Trust? and ended up getting poisoned as she did not prepare the blow fish properly. Chef manage to resuscitate him and send him to the infirmary for the rest of the challenge. In X-Treme Torture, he was accidentally pushed off the plane by DJ and not only did he forgot to pull his parachute, he also failed to land on his team's mattress. As a result, he broke almost every bone in his body. In Brunch of Disgustingness, he had the most problem eating Chef's dishes due to his weak stomach and vomited several times. He even requires help from Geoff and DJ in order to eat a slice of the pizza. He also did not perform well In No Pain, No Game and was eliminated after he was passed out from a skunk's stench.

A very unfortunate event

Heather kisses Trent in an effort to break him and Gwen apart.

Trent and Gwen's relationship blossom in Search and Do Not Destroy. After retrieving his key, Trent helps Gwen in getting hers by pouring water into the skunks' nest. Gwen was grateful for his help and kisses him for the first time, beginning a relationship. From afar, Heather refuse to have another potential alliance other than hers and vow to break them apart. She had Lindsay lure Gwen to the Dock of Shame where she fake cries in front of Trent to gather sympathy from him, claiming that Gwen isn't the person Trent thought to be. When Lindsay signals Gwen's arrival to her, Heather kisses Trent. Gwen is heartbroken watching this and leaves the place in tears. In order to avenge her friend, Leshawna rallies Geoff, Bridgette, Duncan and DJ to vote off Heather but since she is immune, they turn their target to Trent instead. As a result Trent receives the most votes that night and is eliminated. Trent is shocked to discover that he was tricked by Heather and had a moment with Gwen. Just as they are about to share another kiss, Chris interrupts them and forces Trent to the Boat of Losers. As he sails away from the island, the other campers, except Heather and Lindsay, wave farewell at him.

At Playa Des Losers in Haute Camp-ture, Trent vocally admits that he is supporting Gwen for the finale. When Harold is hiding from Courtney, Trent pities him and gives him a piece of bologna. He also gets involved between Noah and Izzy's minor banter, siding with the latter about Noah kissing Cody in the past. Trent still harbors a grudge against Heather and states that he never wants to meet anyone like her ever again. At the end of the episode, Trent is one of the few people to accidentally vote off Leshawna.

TrentShirtlessGwen

Trent spends a majority of his time helping Gwen.

In The Very Last Episode, Really!, Trent, Cody, Leshawna, and Eva are the only people to remain on Gwen's side even after Owen announces the yacht party. He helps Gwen out a lot, even though Gwen still doesn't really trust Trent after the Heather and Trent incident from long ago. Despite this, Trent still did many things for her, such as wiping butter off her flagpole, blocking out Justin so that Gwen could stay focused in the challenge, and even carried a large rock to prove he still loved Gwen. No matter which ending occurs, Trent is reunited with Gwen. In Gwen's ending, Trent is able to encourage Gwen not to give up, allowing her to regain her confidence and win the season.

In Total Drama, Drama, Drama, Drama Island, Trent teamed up with Leshawna and Gwen to look for the case though they didn't have much luck on finding it. At one point, he become frustrated when the girls fell for Justin's charms. By the end of the episode, Trent became one of the fourteen contestants qualify for Total Drama Action.

Trent and Gwen get the first Gilded Chris Awards in history.

Unlike last season, in which he was strong and confident with everyone, Trent starts to make a turn for the worst due to his downhill relationship with Gwen. Although the couple starts out strong at first, an unexpected twist occurs when he and Gwen win the challenge in Alien Resurr-eggtion; their win means that the two of them will be in charge of picking out members for the two teams, which forces Gwen and Trent to compete against each other. The blow is made worse when Trent starts to notice that Gwen and Duncan have so much in common. Trent becomes very upset and jealous because of Gwen's friendship with Duncan, making him and Duncan enemies this season. In a desperate attempt to make Gwen happy, Trent starts to throw challenges for her (which she does not approve).

Due to winning the challenge in Alien Resurr-eggtion, Trent becomes the founder of the Killer Grips team. In Riot On Set, he picks Lindsay, Justin, Beth, Owen, and Izzy to be his teammates. Because he was still jealous of Gwen being close to Duncan, Trent made a point to pick "the beautiful" Lindsay as his first teammate in an attempt to make Gwen jealous of him. The two were able to make up by the end of the episode. However, ever since then, Trent starts to lose his sanity.

During the sand castle building part of the challenge in Beach Blanket Bogus, Trent named his team's sand castle after Gwen. She found it a little disturbing, although she was comforted by the fact that Trent did everything in nines, saying that at least he wasn't as obsessed with her as with his obsession with the number nine. Duncan then pointed out to Gwen that there were five letters in Trent's name and four in hers, adding up to nine. Harold informed Gwen that Trent's obsession with the number nine started becoming apparent after he first became interested in Gwen, convincing her that he truly was going over the top with his obsession over her.

Duncan Trent

Trent starts getting pranked by Duncan in Total Drama Action.

The next part of the challenge required the teams to select a team member to compete in a dance contest. The Screaming Gaffers chose Leshawna, and the Killer Grips chose Trent. Trent threw the challenge so Gwen wouldn't be disappointed from losing. Gwen then said in the confessional that she liked Trent, but hated being responsible for his mental distress. After Trent told her he threw the challenge, Gwen and Trent again made amends. They almost kissed, but Owen's voyeurism interrupted them.

WeirdTrent

One of Trent's strange faces when he starts having a mental breakdown.

Trent's determination to win Gwen over is ultimately what led to his downfall, as he made a habit of throwing challenges on purpose so Gwen could win, which was made very apparent in 3:10 to Crazytown. Owen had previously given him advice that Gwen likes to win, and letting her win would win her over to him. This turned out to be a giant flaw in logic, as Gwen noticed Trent purposely losing challenges just for her sake when she wanted to win the competition fair and square. His nine-obsession still made her uncomfortable as well. Trent showed great concern for Gwen when she had come down with a sinus infection in this episode, but treated her as if she were a terminally ill patient by making everyone lay off on her. When the second challenge was about to start (which was to be a shoot-off), Trent purposely chose Owen to participate because his large size guaranteed that Gwen's team would hit him. Owen's antics ultimately canceled the challenge, but by this point, Trent's own teammates were becoming well aware of Trent's focus being somewhere other than winning. Justin in particular was privy to this detail. After this elimination, two "teams" were made by the fans: Team Trent and Team Gwen. Team Trent says that it was sweet for him to give up challenges for Gwen and that she shouldn't have told his team to vote him off and people on this team usually say that they should still be together as a couple.

After Trent's team lost the third challenge, Gwen approached Trent and informed him of how she was aware of him throwing challenges for her sake. She could no longer take the guilt by allowing it to happen any longer, and broke up with Trent, but still wanted to remain on good terms with him. Trent was depressed to hear the news, but surprisingly took it maturely. What neither of them knew was that Justin was listening in on the entire conversation. His suspicions were true, so he dragged out Gwen in front of the rest of Trent's team (minus Trent) and ordered her to tell the truth that she allowed Trent to make his own team lose numerous times just to win her over. The others were aghast at this, but Gwen insisted that she never wanted it to play out this way and wanted to win fair and square. Justin refused to believe her, so in order to retain her own integrity (and possibly her sanity), Gwen suggested that the team vote off Trent that night to not only prove that she was being honest about wanting to win, but to ease off the tension that had been stewing in their relationship and friendship. The Killer Grips did as Gwen suggested and voted Trent off that night. Trent was surprised at this, and struggled against Chef Hatchet's grip, wanting to at least bid Gwen farewell before he was thrown into the Lame-o-sine. However, it was not meant to be, as Trent was sent away without Gwen to see him off this time. To rub salt in an open wound, Chris showed Gwen the tape of his elimination, much to her regret.

TrentSong

Trent performs a song about his breakup with Gwen.

Trent showed up one episode later in The Aftermath: I, which was a talk show showcasing the characters who did not qualify for the second season along with the characters who did qualify and already lost the competition. Up until Geoff inadvertently blabbed about it, Trent was unaware of Gwen's involvement in getting him kicked out of the competition and cried about it after learning the truth. Several of the characters feel sorry for Trent's situation, especially after Trent explains that his obsession with the number nine actually had nothing to do with Gwen, it became his lucky number during his childhood when his grandfather gave him a toy train. A wheel fell off the train shortly before his grandfather died, leaving only nine wheels. His mother then told him that nine was now his lucky number. Most who had taken Gwen's side of the break-up situation switched to Trent's after learning about this. Trent sang a song with his guitar about his broken heart due to Gwen (most of the campers get emotional and Geoff and Bridgette reconcile), but eventually conceded that he would have to move on from her and find someone else.

Omfgkelsey

Trent makes another appearance in The Aftermath: II as a commentator just like the people who weren't on season two at all. Apparently, Trent has been getting a lot of fan mail since his breakup and elimination. He also has a lot of fans now, one of them being a girl who makes a life-sized Trent doll and kisses it nine times, leaving Trent disturbed and freaked out. He ends up stepping in to stop Gwen when she was about to be forced to enter a piranha-infested dunk tank. Trent confesses that he was the one rigging the challenges and that it was his fault, and that he saw it coming. The audience then cheers for him. As of right now, he and Gwen are on even terms, and return to being friends.

In The Aftermath: III, he is sitting next to Gwen. He is the only commentator to speak, aside from Izzy who greets Owen, when he warns Owen to tell the truth. Not much is referred to him in this episode.

In The Aftermath: IV, Trent is the first former castmate to ask the question of who deserves the money more. Trent asks of Duncan and Beth about their "character," and tells a story similar to the break up between him and Gwen. He possibly did not vote for the winner, as he passes out in the outhouse due to the smell.

In Celebrity Manhunt's Total Drama Action Reunion Special showed that Trent, Justin, Cody and Harold created a boy band with a hit single "When I Cry," but later broke up after bickering in between all the band members, and Trent's reasoning that they didn't "touch the fans at an emotional level." It also shows that Trent had another girlfriend, but asked Justin to break up for him via text message. He was unable to qualify for Total Drama World Tour because he went looking for help when DJ's bus crashed and Chris missed him as well as the others who went looking for help. Trent is shocked and devastated to discover he missed a chance to be on another season.

Total Drama World Tour

In Aftermath: Bridgette Over Troubled Water, Trent is now a commentator on the Total Drama Aftermath. He is seen sitting in the peanut gallery with the rest of the non-contestants this season. It is revealed that Geoff used Trent's guitar as a piñata during a party he held for the non-competing contestants, much to Trent's anger. During the "Total Drama Fugitive" segment, Trent calls Duncan an idiot for quitting and giving up a chance for a million dollars (despite Trent himself did a similar action in the past). He, Justin and Sasquatchanakwa join Harold in singing Baby, as a reunion of the The Drama Brothers. After the commercial break, Eva reveals that they are being chased by their fans from a private girl school. In a deleted clip he is shown to have been kidnapped and tied to the moving school bus with all the school girls on board.

Trent once again appeared as a spectator in Aftermath: Revenge of the Telethon. He was happy to answer phones for the cause and was tricked (along with the other non-contestants) to be shark bait in an attempt of Geoff's part to raise money. However, this stunt gave them the millions dollars needed to keep the show and Aftermath running. After the explosion, Trent was hanging on to the main TV monitor, which was destroyed and non-functional. At the very end of the episode, it fell off its cables with Trent still gripping it, tiredly.

70-5

Gwen and Trent share a laugh.

In Aftermath Aftermayhem, Trent has an off-screen bet with Leshawna to see if Lindsay would remember Tyler's name and lost. While lining up before the "Total Drama Second Chance Challenge” starts, the anxious crowd of losers pushes Trent around and he is suddenly pushed into Gwen. Surprisingly, he greets her fondly with a smile even though Gwen is now involved with Duncan, something that should aggravate any normal ex-boyfriend, especially because he was jealous of Duncan when he and Gwen were dating. He had a conversation with her about Duncan and hides the fact that he knew it was coming all along. Trent is not qualify for the Second Chance Challenge, but willingly help an injured Tyler, who was injured earlier in the episode, by pushing his wheelchair. When it is Tyler's turn, Trent wish him good luck and push him to his square, only for Tyler to be eliminated immediately. With his task completed, Blaineley sends Trent to sit with his ex-girlfriend, hoping to stir up some more trouble. Instead, the former couple are still be able to communicate peacefully and share a laugh after Gwen made a joke.

In Hawaiian Style, as well as in Hawaiian Punch, Trent is seen to be rooting for Cody over Alejandro and Heather to win the million dollars. At the end of the last episode, Trent is seen swimming away from the island as it becomes covered with hot lava after the volcano erupts, and he also laughed at Chris along with the other contestants.

Camp TV

001 6

Camp TV's Trent glaring at Camp TV's Geoff.

Like many of the characters, Trent was present in Camp TV. Trent was also one of the main characters of the show, however, he was a late-comer to the camp. In terms of design, Trent is one of the five characters (the others being Duncan, Geoff, Lindsay, and Harold) to go virtually unchanged from his design in Camp TV. The only difference is that his shirt reads "Smith's" instead of having a handprint symbol. His character, however, was almost completely different from his of the current show. While he and Gwen are a couple in Total Drama Island, the two of them were bitter enemies in Camp TV (as they are seen in a promotional image trying to strangle each other). Trent also was very unpopular amongst the other campers, even immediately after arriving (to which Trent is fairly taken aback), while in the current show he is popular amongst all the campers. His lack of popularity is apparently because he was the only camper considered to be "pretty normal".

Trivia

  • Both of Trent's eliminations were caused by an antagonist, involving his relationship with Gwen:
    • In Search and Do Not Destroy, Heather kissed him in front of Gwen, and once Gwen told Leshawna what happened, Leshawna formed a temporary alliance to vote off either Heather or Trent. Since Heather won invincibility, Trent was eliminated.
    • In 3:10 to Crazytown, Justin overheard Gwen breaking up with Trent after Trent had been throwing his team's challenge for her. Despite knowing the truth, Justin lied to his team mates that the two were forming an alliance to get to the final two. In order to prove that she and Trent were not in an alliance, she told the Killer Grips to vote him off.
  • Trent is one of seventeen contestants to have competed on only two seasons, with the others being Mike, Zoey, Sam, Jo, Scott, Cameron, Lightning, Alejandro, Sierra, Noah, Tyler, Cody, Ezekiel, Beth, Geoff, and Justin.
  • Trent's least favorite food is broccoli. His parents had to force-feed him broccoli when he was a kid. His team uses this force-feeding tactic to make Trent eat in Brunch of Disgustingness.
  • Trent is one of the most unfortunate contestants; becoming gravely injured or narrowly evading certain death five times.
  • He is one of the few characters who can play a musical instrument, the others being Courtney (who can play the violin and guitar), Harold, Cody (who can play the keyboard), Chef (who can play the harp and drums), Alejandro (who plays the accordion), Duncan (who plays the guitar), and Gwen (who play the drums).
    • Based on the abundance of evidence, Trent appears to be one of the two most talented musician of all the Total Drama contestants (the other being Courtney). He has been seen to sing, play the guitar, and dance over the course of the series.
  • Trent is one of only eleven characters to have a cleft chin, the others being Brick, Chef, Chris, Dakota, Geoff, Heather, Josh, Leonard, Rodney, and Topher.
  • Before Beach Blanket Bogus, there were a few other times when Trent and the number nine were associated with each other:
  • He is one of the eleven characters to sing solo on a season other than Total Drama World Tour, the others being Beth, Cody, Lindsay, Heather, Owen, Chris, Courtney, Harold, Ella and Sugar.
  • He was the first contestant to sing in the series.
  • Trent's favorite song is She Will Be Loved, a reference to the Maroon 5 song of the same name.
  • Trent is one of the few boys in the Total Drama series (along with Justin, Duncan, Harold, Mike, Alejandro, Dave) to have more than one girl show or talk about being attracted to him. Three contestants have openly expressed an interest in him: Gwen, Katie, and Sadie. Throughout the first season and early of the second, Lindsay flirted with him a number of times, and the first time she did so, Beth was shown looking jealous at the two. In Celebrity Manhunt's Total Drama Action Reunion Special, it's also shown that Trent had another girlfriend, but asked Justin to break up with her for him. Throughout season two and three, Trent's popularity among girls is occasionally referenced.
  • Trent has appeared in all of the aftermath episodes, being the only non-host male to do so.
  • Trent's shirt has a five-fingered palm, despite the characters only being drawn with four fingers on their hand.
  • Trent is one of the few known contestants to date a character outside the competition, the others being Beth, Justin, Izzy, Sky, and Sam.
  • Trent is one of the four contestants that did not qualify for Total Drama World Tour and sang, the others are Eva, Geoff and Justin.
  • According to Trent's biography, in his junior high graduating class he was voted as "Most Mysterious and Irresistible".
