The final three get to make their own challenges which the host decides to use with his own adjustments. After a hurdle race and a tree-hopping course leads to a three-way tie, it comes down to a talent show in which the contestants reveal some rather bizarre abilities. A conflict between two competitors reaches its boiling point, however, it is the one who should be in their element with the challenge that reveals how talentless they really are, getting them removed along with earning their long-awaited comeuppance and reducing the competition to the final two.

Plot

SugarIsEVIL

Sugar hiding after trying to club Sky.

At the treehouse, while Sky is still sleeping, she is startled by the appearance of a shadowed figure attempting to hit her with a club and screams. Suddenly, the figure disappears and Sky presumed that she was just dreaming before going back to bed. In reality, Sugar is hiding in the bunk above her, with the club still in her hand. Meanwhile, Shawn is still depressed with his girlfriend's recent elimination.

[giggling] I wasn't really gonna hit her… on camera.
TDPI Sky
Sky
Finale, here I come! Shawn's fit and smart-ish, but if it comes down to a foot race or a math test, I think I can take him. And Sugar's no match at all, although she did make it all the way to the final three. Underestimating her again would be a big mistake. If I'm not careful, she'll cheat and lie her way to the million! No more Mr. Nice Guy— uh, I mean, Girl.
TDPI Shawn

Was I happy to see Jasmine get shot out of a cannon? Of course not! Was I relieved? Well, a little. If we'd made it to the finale together, she thought we'd split the winnings, but now I can get the girl and the zombie-proof bunker! Check it out! Entrance chamber with eye-scan entry and remote lasers here, here, and here. And here and here. And here. Master bedroom with bite-proof bedspread and weaponized pillows, and just in case… this is the panic room! And this is the panic room inside the panic room! Can't be too careful.

Shawn is now relieved that he can keep the prize money all for himself to build his zombie-proof bunker. Soon, Chris announces that the challenge will begin soon and Sky quickly runs to the meeting place. En route, Sugar cryptically reveals to her about the incident this morning to which Sky immediately realizes that she wasn't dreaming at all. As the two girls begin quarreling on how they play the game, Sugar pushes Sky into a bush, stating that her niceness would be the cause of her eventual defeat.

Two girls filled with boiling hatred for each other. It's really starting to feel like a pageant now, and there's only two emotions at a pageant: winning and revenge.
TDPI Sky
Sky
Okay, ow! Maybe I need to work on my 'No more Mr. Nice Girl.'

Once the final three arrive, Chris announces that each of the three finalists will create their own challenges, forming a three-round challenge overall.

TDPI Shawn
Shawn
Sky may be the most likely to survive to the finale, but Sugar's the most likely to survive the zombie apocalypse! Her brain's in her neck! Zombies never go for the neck. It's not so much about my skills; it's more about their weaknesses.
TDPI Sugar
Sugar
Once we get to my challenge, no way is anyone gonna beat me.
TDPI Sky
Sky
And they both have so many weaknesses to choose from.
In any competition, it's better to strike first. It breaks your opponent's spirit. Although it's not Sugar's spirit I wanna break.

The first challenge is created by Sky: a one-hundred meter hurdle race, with traps added by Chris.

TDPI Shawn
Shawn
Back home, hurdles are part or my daily zombie evasion training regime. I like to pretend each hurdle is a zombie reaching up to attack me. Works like a charm.
TDPI Sky
Sky
I came second in the provincial hurdles event, and the girl who came in first isn't here.
Sky vs

Shawn trips on a hurdle while Sky passes by him.

The players start the race and Sky takes an early lead, successfully jumping over the hurdles until she falls into a hole. Shawn on the other hand, isn't as successful and keeps getting hurt by the traps, but after Sky falls into a hole he overtakes her. Meanwhile, Sugar, does not jump over any hurdles and instead drags them along in front of her, mistakenly believing she had to collect them.

Sky
It always comes down to what you've got left in the tank.

Eventually, Sky makes a desperate sprint and successfully reach the finish line before Shawn and wins her own challenge, with Shawn in second and Sugar in last. Sugar protests that she should be the winner, as she collected the most hurdles; however, Chris retorts by saying nobody cared, as it "wasn't a scavenger hunt."

The second challenge is created by Shawn. His original idea of a scavenger hunt for hidden government documents about the existence of a zombie virus is rejected, so Chris chose his second idea: Reaching the finish line by jumping from tree to tree without touching the ground. Shawn and Sky both perform exceptionally well, while Sugar trails behind, barely climbing up a tree.

TDPI Shawn
Shawn
Zombies aren't great at climbing trees and forget jumping from one tree to another. No way can they do that, which is why I can. Time to shine!
TDPI Sky
Sky
Shawn picked a tree-hop challenge, so for sure he's good at it. I'll just follow him, then jump ahead at the finish line! If Sugar loses this one, mathematically, I'm in the finale, and she's in the cannon.
TDPI Sugar
Sugar
I don't know anything about trees, but Granny says, 'In battle, you should always take higher ground.' Who knows? Maybe there's a bridge up there, or a bus stop! If you've never been to the top of a tree, you can't say there ain't!

As Sky had suspected, Shawn is slightly more skilled at tree-hopping, and earns the lead. However, Shawn runs into bad luck when he encounters a monkey wielding a chainsaw, and starts cutting the branch he's holding onto.

TDPI Shawn
Shawn
You spend your whole life preparing for zombies, that a monkey with a saw throws all that work out the window.
Sugar wins

Sugar unexpectedly wins the second challenge.

As a result, Shawn hits the ground and must start over. Meanwhile, Sugar climbs to the top of the first tree, believing that there is something up there that might help her to reach the finish line. Once she reaches the top, the tree starts to wobble as a result of her weight. Eventually, she is launched all the way to the finish line, knocking out Sky in the process. But before Sky can start over, Shawn reaches the finish line first, putting him in second place again while Sky places in last. With the points now tied, Chris announces the final challenge, created by Sugar: a talent show. While Sugar is confident she'll make it to the finals, Sky and Shawn are nervous as they don't have any talents other than their respective specialty.

Is zombie apocalypse survival a talent? No? Oh…
TDPI Sky
Sky
A talent contest? Ugh, the only talent I have is kinda gross, but what choice do I have?

Sky, as "Sheriff Sky," shows off her burping talent.

An hour later, the contestants gather at the stage with their performance being judged by Chris himself, an intern and the rebuilt Scuba Bear. The talent show begins with Chef singing a song as an introduction. The first contestant to perform is Sky as "The Belching Sheriff." Her performance involves her belching loud enough to break the bandit's cardboard standees.

TDPI Sky
Sky
It's not that weird. All my Olympic training makes my abs and diaphragm ridiculously strong. When I really load up on carbonated water, I can burp out a campfire.
TDPI Shawn
Shawn
Um… yeah, wow.
TDPI Sugar
Sugar
That… was… terrible! [laughs]

While Scuba Bear and the intern give her nine points, Chris only gives her a 6.5 due to the color used for the cardboard standees being cliché. Shawn is next to perform and plays what he called an "Armpit Serenade." The symphonic piece he performed is good enough to impress all the judges who give him nine points each, and with that, Shawn is guaranteed a spot in the finale.

TDPI Shawn
Shawn
Going to the finale, woohoo! That's the first time I ever tried that armpit thing. Well, in public. Sweet!
TDPI Sky
Sky
I can't lie, I'm worried. Talent shows are Sugar's thing. Probably her only thing, but her thing!
TDPI Sugar
Sugar
I wish mama were here. Before every pageant, she always gives me the same awesome pep talk, 'We didn't drive two days straight for you to spend all your time playing with the fancy flush toilets! Now get your dress on!' This is my thing, and you can count on that!

Sugar is the last person and under her "Sugar Silo" alias, she performs a combination of Rap and Country music, which she refers to as "Craptry." However, her performance is so terrible to the point that the camera lens breaks, a squirrel loses its fur, sharks leave the island, an intern runs away, and Scuba Bear is destroyed again. Chris is appalled by this and gives Sugar the lowest score, thereby eliminating her.

So long Sugar

Sugar is eliminated.

That night, Sugar, in the Cannon of Shame, protests that the judging was tampered with and that she should be the winner, claiming that the winner should be based on their "general awesomeness," but Chris ignores her complaints and activates the cannon. As Sugar flies off, she yells "I'm coming, wizard!." With twelve contestants eliminated, Chris announces that Shawn and Sky are the final two of the season.

Trivia

General

Continuity

  • There are many similarities to past 'Total Drama Island' challenges:
    • This is the second time the challenge involves a talent show, the first being "Not Quite Famous."
    • Not counting Total Drama Aftermaths this is the second time the contestants are required to come up with challenges themselves, the first time it occurs is in "I Triple Dog Dare You!"
      • Both episodes feature the final three of the season.
      • However, while here the remaining contestants need to come up with challenges, the ones eliminated needed to do so in "I Triple Dog Dare You!"
  • The monkey biting Shawn's head is almost the exact same posture as how the grease pig bit his head in "I Love You, Grease Pig!"
  • Sugar is the second person to be automatically eliminated in a challenge this season, the first being Jasmine in "Sky Fall."
  • This is the second time Chris eliminates someone due to disliking their singing, the first time being Ella in "Mo Monkey Mo Problems."
    • Ironically, Sugar is directly responsible for Ella's elimination by exploiting Chris' dislike for Ella's singing, but ends up falling victim to it herself.
  • Leonard is mentioned by Sugar while she is taking the Cannon of Shame, marking one of the many times Sugar refers to him in the season.
  • When Sugar is put in the Cannon of Shame, she is wearing the tiara she originally received from her parachute back in "So, Uh, This Is My Team?"

Goofs

SkyFloats

Sky appears to be floating during the tree hop challenge.

  • There are multiple animation errors during the tree hopping challenge:
    • Sky appears to be floating while she watches Shawn jump from a tree.
    • When Shawn jumps from one tree to another, the strap of his helmet is layered behind his hair. Then, when he lands, his neck is doubled before the head appears to be detached from his body.
    • When Sky stumbles on a tree branch, her torso, waist and legs briefly detach from one another.
    • The branch that the monkey sawed off is missing after Shawn landed on the same spot it falls to.
Error! Sugar left foot

Sugar's foot breaks away from her left leg.

  • When Sky talks to Sugar about her being eliminated, she's shown to be taller even though she's the shortest female in the season.
  • Part of Shawn's hair merges into his collar after overtaking Sky during the hurdle challenge.
  • In the beginning of the episode where Sugar has her branch, she can sometimes be shown with a full set of teeth despite having a gap on her teeth.
  • As Sugar jumps off the judge's table, her left foot breaks away from her left leg.
