The main lodge is primarily where the campers eat their daily meals, but quite often it serves as a location for challenges as well. As of Total Drama All-Stars, the lodge is no longer used to serve meals, as food is served in the campers' cabins or at the McLean Spa Hotel. It does appear briefly in Sundae Muddy Sundae as a challenge location.
There are many major events in the main lodge during Total Drama Island, aside from the campers eating and discussing, and the occasional challenge taking place inside the lodge.
In The Big Sleep, the main lodge is used as the destination for the morning race, and later for the large turkey feast that Chris provides for the campers.
In Phobia Factor, Chris explains the day's challenge, and Tyler faces his fear of chickens for the first time in the main lodge.
In Paintball Deer Hunter, Beth steals chips from the main lodge for Heather, due to being in an alliance with her. This event is what sparks their conflict, along with Beth's departure from the alliance later on in the episode. Also, partially her elimination in the next episode.
In If You Can't Take The Heat..., the entire challenge takes place in the main lodge, due to the challenge requiring cooking. The Killer Bass take half of the kitchen, while the Screaming Gophers take the other half.
In Who Can You Trust?, the main lodge is used for the second challenge, in which the Geoff and Bridgette compete against Lindsay and Trent in preparing a potentially poisonous blowfish and serving it to the other camper.
In Basic Straining, Chef sends the campers to the main lodge for their dinner, which is not dinner at all, but rather eating out of the garbage, which Chef calls rations. One of the challenges also takes place, in which the campers have to write a three hundred word essay on how much they love Chef without falling asleep.
Heather's key is hidden in Chef's fridge in Search and Do Not Destroy. When she opens the door to the fridge, she is frightened to see a furious Chef waiting for her inside, and quickly closes the door.
In Hide and Be Sneaky, Heather, Lindsay, and Izzy hide inside the lodge, while Owen and DJ hide on the roof. Later, Chef finds Izzy hiding on the roof after she sneezes. Izzy and Chef have a battle, and Izzy jumps out of the main lodge, and Chef chases after her.
Gwen's climactic encounter with the real killer takes place inside the main lodge, where she goes to make a sandwich for herself. It is also where Chef, the fake killer, encounters Leshawna when she finds brownies inside the kitchen.
The main lodge is used for challenge purposes for the final time in Trial By Tri-Armed Triathlon when the three opposing pairs compete in their first challenge, in which one camper must feed a dish the other one as fast as possible.
In Backstabbers Ahoy!, the competitors are yet again seen eating in the lodge, but are once again chased out; this time by a mutant raccoon.
In The Enchanted Franken-Forest, Cameron forms an alliance with Zoey to help each other reach the finale. Zoey also uses a fork as a makeshift slingshot and hits Chef with it.
The main lodge is no longer used as a dining area for the competitors, as they are served food in their living areas. Seemingly, for this reason, the main lodge looks decrepit and abandoned. In Sundae Muddy Sundae, the main lodge is one of the destinations where the remaining competitors must race in order to make their sundaes. There, they have to sprinkle nuts on it while trying to avoid the newly repaired Drama Machine. Three interns are inside the lodge in The Final Wreck-ening, presumably cleaning it. When the island begins to sink, they manage to stay afloat on one of the dining tables.
The interior of the first room in the main lodge consists of two long tables (one with a tablecloth and one without), and twenty-two tree stumps that serve as seats for the campers. Across from the tables is a window that outlooks into the kitchen where the campers take their trays to receive their meals from Chef, who normally stands behind the counter. To the right of the window is a saloon swing door, leading to the kitchen.
At the far end of the cabin is a fireplace complete with mounted deer antlers above it. Chef refers to the kitchen as his domain. The kitchen consists of a couple of sinks, an oven, a freezer, and a back door leading out of it. In later episodes, there is also a table in the kitchen.
- Total Drama Action, Total Drama World Tour and Total Drama: Pahkitew Island are currently the only seasons to not feature the main lodge.
- The main lodge was originally going to appear in the prototype of the Total Drama series; Camp TV. It is seen in the trailer, at the moment where Lindsay exits it while running, being scared of Harold's ant farm.
