Jo was a camper in Total Drama: Revenge of the Island. She was originally on the Mutant Maggots, but switches to the Toxic Rats in Runaway Model. She later returns as a competitor in Total Drama All-Stars on the Villainous Vultures.
Jo is not the person to run to if one is looking for a friendship. She is competitive to an enormous extent, strategic, and overall has a harsh personality that is difficult to break through. Jo believes that she is the strongest competitor and most deserving of the million dollar prize. She will turn anything to a competition, from breakfast to recovering from an unexpected event. She will even not hesitate to sacrifice the life of another if she deems necessary. Jo appears to be a tomboy, as shown in Runaway Model, in which she is completely disinterested in hair and fashion. Additionally, in her biography, she expresses that she will never let a guy win just because she may find him attractive. Despite this, Jo has implied that she actually does want such things as feeling beautiful and finding love. At one point, she takes on the responsibility of seducing Sasquatchanakwa, and in A Mine Is a Terrible Thing to Waste, she laments to Lightning that she's never had her first kiss. Jo is power-hungry and lusts for control. She will fiercely fight for the position of team leader if she has to. She also views herself as being better than others, often looking down upon her teammates. A running gag with Jo involves her using nicknames for the other contestants, generally as insults towards them or for an easy way to describe them. Such examples include "String bean" for Cameron, "Dud-can" for Duncan, "Ale-handwalker" for Alejandro, and many insults mocking Brick's pants wetting habit.
Jo debuts in the premiere episode of Total Drama: Revenge of the Island, and is immediately shown to be quite mean a camper; from threatening Scott when he annoys her, to laughing at Chef Hatchet's pain. She is put on the Mutant Maggots and immediately assumes leadership, as to Jo, everything is a challenge that she must win. When the contestants are swimming to the island after their yacht is destroyed, Jo immediately swims to the beach at full speed, pushing several contestants along the way. She is shocked to see that Dawn has already reached the shore, and is cannot understand how Dawn got there faster and is not even wet. Jo believes that she is the strongest contestant in the show and is overly bossy, demeaning, and harsh to everyone else, especially Cameron due to his weak physique. Believing he is the most expendable member of the team, Jo constantly uses Cameron as a means to win a challenge, leading Cameron to be severely injured.
Jo's relationship with Brick starts out on equal terms, with the two of them seeing each other as strong competitors. The two compete in almost everything, even who can finish breakfast the fastest. However, Jo often makes fun of Brick's bad luck and cowardly personality. In Finders Creepers, any camaraderie between the two is broken when Jo refuses to help Brick to find their missing teammate, as it is his code of honor. She also shows no concern when Brick is kidnapped by the spider. After their team loses, Jo once again belittles Brick's fear. Chris announces that Brick is to be transferred to the opposing team that night. Despite this, they become teammates again two episodes later after Jo and Scott switch teams, now declaring the Toxic Rats as "her team". In A Mine is a Terrible Thing to Waste, Jo gains the help of Lightning to vote off Brick after he abandons them to help his old team.
With Brick gone, Jo develops a rivalry with another physically strong contestant, this time being Lightning. As the final members of the Toxic Rats, the two of them have to double their effort in The Treasure Island of Dr. McLean if they ever want to win. Throughout this partnership, Jo has to put up with Lightning's lack of intelligence as well as him mistaken her as a boy. Ultimately, the two win the challenge after Jo manages to find where Sam and Gwen are buried. Even after the teams are merged, Jo and Lightning continue to work together for a while until Jo betrays Lightning while escaping from Chef's prison and leaves him at the mercy of Fang. However, Lightning manages to persuade Fang into helping him and outranks Jo in the challenge.
In Up, Up And Away In My Pitiful Balloon, Jo decides to take up on Cameron's offer for an alliance he made in the previous episode, knowing that his brains will be extremely useful for the challenge. Jo's bossiness comes around again when she demands that Cameron make her flying machine first, as well as sabotage Lightning's if he could. Even when Cameron wins the first challenge, Jo takes his reward as her own. While the contestants are chasing Heather, Jo orders Cameron to defend her by shielding her from Heather's attack. Eventually, Lightning tells Cameron to stand up for himself, leading Cameron to betray Jo by detonating the smoke machine while she is using it. During the elimination ceremony, Jo is voted out by Lightning and Cameron. Although angry at Cameron for betraying her, she acknowledges him for becoming stronger when he tells her that learned from the best, referring to Jo. Before she takes the Hurl of Shame, Jo angrily mocks Lightning for not being able to realize that she is a girl, much to his surprise.
In the finale, Jo isn't thrilled with having to root for either of the finalists, but chooses Lightning over Cameron after Chris threatens to release Fang. When the mutant animals go on a rampage, Jo and a few others are attacked by Larry until Cameron saves them. In Cameron's ending, Jo isn't delighted to see Cameron winning, but is happy when he announces that he is sharing the money with everyone. In Lightning's ending, Jo rants in the confessional that she should have won the money instead of Cameron or Lightning, since she "carried both these losers." She is last seen laughing at Chris when he is arrested by the government.
Jo is one of the returning contestants in Heroes vs. Villains. After noticing the size discrepancy between her team and the opposing team, she immediately demands that Chris provides the Villainous Vultures with an extra member to make up for the difference. Like last season, Jo immediately clashes with everyone on her team (especially Heather) by claiming that she is better than all of them and deserves to be their leader. She volunteers to be the pusher of the baby carriage for her team. As she pushes Lightning on the carriage, she makes a deal with him to stay out of each other's way until the merge. Her teammates are unable to find the correct key for a long while, rendering her extremely tired as she runs to-and-fro from the beach. Luckily, Alejandro finds the correct key, much to her relief.
While enjoying breakfast with her team, Jo convinces everyone to vote for Lightning as soon as they can in Evil Dread. Throughout the episode, she and Heather quarrel on who should be their team's leader. When they eventually lose the challenge, Jo campaigns to send Lightning home. She is ultimately successful, and receives the final marshmallow while Lightning is eliminated.
Jo and Heather continue to quarrel in Saving Private Leechball, each blaming the other for losing the previous challenge, until Gwen tells them to be quiet as she is trying to sleep. The next day, Jo attempts to pull Gwen into an alliance with her, knowing that by gaining Gwen's trust, Duncan will follow. During the challenge, Jo accidentally fires the leech cannon at Scott, causing her teammates to be upset with her. She is the last member of her team standing, only to be eliminated while battling Zoey. At the elimination ceremony, because of her constant bickering and friendly fire, she is voted off. In the exclusive clip, the Flush of Shame brings her to the sewers of Egypt, where she is attacked by a swarm of scarab beetles.
She is in one of the balloons in The Final Wreck-ening, although her balloon is not popped. She floats away with the other contestants and their un-popped balloons.
Jo was one of only two characters whose name was changed since the days of Total Drama Reloaded; she was originally named Mary. Despite this, she had little to no changes whatsoever to her overall design, and is arguably the most unchanged character of the entire new cast. The only noticeable difference is with her hoodie since they were originally the exact same shade of gray as her pants, but have since become noticeably darker. Her pants also lack the tightening strings that were present in the original design. Her eye color has also changed from gray to purple and her shoe color changed from plain white to pale green.

Jo begins the audition by greeting Total Drama producers. She claims she should be chosen because she is "the best, the strongest, the smartest, and, by extension, the meanest." She also says that she will win the million dollars, however, on a second thought, she states that the money should be handed over to her right in that moment because no one can possibly be better than her. She then ends the audition saying, "That is all."
